Mechanisms and regulation of amino acid excretion by yeast cells

Excretion of metabolites by yeast cells has been described many years ago but the underlying molecular mechanisms remain poorly known. Ten years ago, we characterized the first amino acid transporter involved in excretion of amino acids by yeast (Velasco et al. 2004). This protein belongs to a wide family of transporters that remains poorly characterized (Van Belle & André, 2001; Brohée et al. 2010).

In collaboration with Dr. Isabelle Georirs (Institut JM Wiame, Anderlect), we currently aim to further investigate the mechanisms and transporters involved in this excretion of amino acids. We hope to exploit the data for industrial purposes.
